Saray Koleksiyonları Müzesi,
The valuable artworks of the Ottoman Palaces are now exhibited in the original building of Dolmabahçe Palace Kitchens (Matbah-ı Amire). The Museum with a 2,000-m² exhibition area is located at the Beşiktaş district of Istanbul. Until the opening of the depot-museum in 2006, these art pieces had been kept in the storage rooms of the palaces.
First, approximately 20.000 objects were transferred from Dolmabahçe Palace to the depot-museum. Afterwards, many valuable pieces from other palaces were also added. Currently, there are about 43,000 historical objects in the collection of the depot-museum. Only a selection of 5,000 artworks is being exhibited.
The main theme of the museum is the daily life of the Ottoman Palaces in the 19th century. The artworks are varied from children’s dresses, to kitchen sets and musical instruments.
The hall at the entrance of the museum houses some temporary art exhibitions. The museum is open to the public, fine art experts and researchers.
